IN preparation for the 2014 edition of its annual tourism oriented Mare Festival; the Ondo State government has embarked on the building of Habitats in the Idanre Tourism Corridor. The Habitats are expected to provide tourists with comfortable lodging during the Festival.
The state Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, while speaking with newsmen on the preparations towards the annual Mare festival in Akure on Friday said a Habitat already has been created at Owena-Idanre Junction along the road leading to Ondo.
He said the road which will soon be commissioned leads to Atosin, Idanre Golf Course, and the corridor will have 24 hours security surveillance camera, emergency rescue system, and recreation centres among others.
He said tourists to this year’s Mare Festival will have a completely new experience from what was obtainable in the past because the event is planned to accommodate innovations that will make tourists want to come back.
Some of those innovations weaved around African culture include the construction of cycling and jogging tracks on a side of the roads along the corridor, and Mountain Resort designed to have all the trappings of an exclusive resort of international standard.
Akinmade said the coming of Dr Wale Akinboboye as the driving force behind the state’s tourism has brought a lot of verve and creativity into it.
“Dr Akinboboye has put his expertise to bear by ensuring that the state becomes the most sought after tourist’s destination and it will be a beehive of activities within the state in the coming months,” Akinmade said.
